What is to come for maximalism fashion in Spring/Summer 2024?

Maximalism is the balance of art and fashion combined with the concept of ‘more is more.’ When thinking about trends that might come and go, maximalists are bound to look at them from an artistic approach and asking if the item suits their personality, wardrobe, or aesthetic before purchasing. This may be hard to believe as some people assume that a maximalist leaps on trends and purchases as much as they can. But I, as a maximalist, can tell you that just is not true.

As someone who generally prefers the spring season in its entirety, I tend to also gravitate to fashion trends during the spring season as well. Let’s just say by the end of this winter season, I may have a case of a fashion-based spring fever.

After researching some trends, I’ve found that fashion is STILL favoring the minimalist side, which is quite unfortunate to the fashion lovers on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Trends that I found more appealing include: roses/florals, bows, short shorts, the color blue, voluminous skirts, kitten heels/ballet flat/mules, and sheer materials.

I would like to add in some predictions for what I believe may be on the rise: colored gingham especially in sets: leopard print/animal prints in spring, leg warmers with bare legs or tights, denim dresses, drop waist dresses, bloomers/ flowy shorts, and lace.

We have aesthetics like coquette where the bows, rosettes, bloomers, short heels, leg warmers, lace, etc all fit into that category. As long as that aesthetic, or features of it, stays trending, the items will as well.

So let’s look at some pieces to showcase what will be in store for the maximalists of the world this coming spring 2024….

Now, let’s dive in to how a maximalist can take pieces like these and style them to create a maximalist outfit. Remember, there is a difference between wearing clothes and styling clothes. Hint Hint, the latter is better.

In maximalist terms, styling comes down to the fundamental basics: accessories, layering, color, texture. The garment(s) may already have texture and color so the best way to go about styling the piece(s) is by layering or adding accessories. If going indoors, layering should not be too much of an issue. But, if you are a maximalist like me, having to fight against the Texas heat… you might second guess/skip the layering step and jump straight into accessories.

Accessories can be chunky, gaudy, and add to the drama of the outfit in a maximalist world. I personally find myself trying to make my outfits as monochromatic as possible. For example, if I am wearing blue, I want ALL of my accessories to be blue (rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, hair pieces, shoes, purse, etc.). The same applies if my outfit is patterned or multicolor except instead of a singular color, I have 1-3 colors to choose from.
