Seasonal and Annual Color Trends for 2024

Pantone is great at picking out the color of the year. However, during the four different seasons, the trend predictions for color may not incorporate the overall “color of the year.” This spring season is a good example of that.

Pantone’s color of the year is “Peach fuzz.” Yes folks, the tiny hairs covering your face is the color Pantone thinks we should all be wearing and owning. To everyone saying, shouldn’t that color be popular in spring/summer? Well you are not totally wrong for wondering that. Peach is a perfect color for these two seasons, however, when we break down the runway looks for S/S 2024 peach and peach fuzz are really nowhere to be found.

This spring season, Pantone actually picked more neutral tone colors, bright blues, yellow, green, lilac, and darker oranges. WhoWhatWear also chose yellow, green, brighter blue, chocolate brown, steel grey, silver, red, and white. After researching the color trends for S/S 2024, there are some overlaps to the runway visualizations for sure as seen with the repetition of color trend predictions.

Why do I keep emphasizing that the runways are important? Because of the Trickle-Down marketing theory. This theory is one of the most prominent fashion theories, and it argues that fashion trends tend to circulate downwards from upper to lower classes (i.e. the runway to the department store to the thrift store).

So when you are out shopping and you see a chocolate brown item during spring/summer and you are questioning “why would a fall-like color be sold at a time like this?” you now have your answer. (If you did not catch the answer, the chocolate brown item was worn on the S/S ’24 runway and is now circulating online and department stores).

Let’s break apart some of these color trends and see how a maximalist would style them:

White:

Cherry red:
