I think by now we have come to the understanding that fashion is personal, individual, or a representation of one’s self. We all have our own Pinterest boards, follow different content creators, and like different fashion styles. Yet, fashion still remains circular. The saying, “history repeats itself,” can be used for fashion as well- we have all seen it. So what then makes something niche? In true definition niche means “something specialized, unusual, or appealing to a small, specific group of people.” That being said, when it comes to maximalism, you already are niche in and of itself because not all fashion lovers are maximalists and not all maximalists are the same (remember, fashion is individual). Circling back to what is circular, fashion that is, a lot of these trends might have you thinking “that was popular during x time” or “I remember wearing/ owning that.” To that I say what all game of thrones fans know from the Greyjoys, “what is dead, may never die.”

- Military style jackets
I am not surprised to see this style of jacket march back into the playing field because of the popularity of sailor aesthetic fashion that resurged last year. This style jacket can add a flare to any look-wear it alone as a statement, as a layering piece, or even as an accent. Instead of saying “the red coats are coming,” we fashion lovers are saying “the military jackets are coming!”

2. Colored/ patterned tights
This trend I have specifically seen on social media having a moment. BUT, in my personal opinion, this trend has been growing since last year. This trend can be used to create a monochrome outfit, to add a pop of color to an outfit, or to even add separation to an outfit.

3. Hats- sailor, cabbie, beret, pillbox, etc
Every time I think one style of hat is taking the lead on what is trending, another one pops up. We can thank Hulu for popularizing berets or the flat cap with their new tv show titled Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. We can also continue to thank the Kennedy’s, specifically Jackie, for the pillbox hat. In all honesty, you could probably put any style hat on right now and be following some sort of trend because there are not really a lot of hats that aren’t trending right now haha!

4. Polka dots
This is again a trend that I don’t really think died down-it just has continued to grow. This pattern has always remained semi-whimsical in nature as they have this sweet or nostalgic feel to them. Now, this trend has shifted. Some fashion writers such as Vogue Arabia are mentioning that polka dots are becoming more sophisticated, serious, and minimal and I simply do not agree. Perhaps this is a way for minimalist fashion lovers to feel empowered to experiment with a pattern so seemingly popular and distinctive. One thing is for sure, a polka dot will always remain playful- even with structure, even with a polished look, even in an age of minimalism. At the end of the day, Vogue Arabia and I can agree on the fact that polka dots are “loud in the best way.”
